The theme for August was 五輪 Gorin – literally Five Rings – meaning that is, the Olympics! And since we were counting, we practiced most of the useful kanji numbers from zero to many million. So helpful for reading numbers in kanji whether from a menu, address or elsewhere, and we practiced writing several of the kanji numbers.
We looked at the rich visual imagery in the kanji, for instance rin – ring/ wheel – has the wheels of the cart – sha – vehicle – in the radical on the left which gives the clue to the meaning of the character.
For vocab practice we had sports like karate ?, and in the fun quiz this month kanji such as 森 mori forest, and 礼 rei bow/manners.
Blair brought out some favourite food packaging as well as usual to explore and translate the kanji, hiragana and katakana ?
